AFE families offer a multitude of talents and are very active in the community. Parents are engaged in facilitating, creating a home-learning environment and are responsible for direct instruction for their student. Parents of students who attend one of our ongoing weekly classes may work in that classroom, or may observe or participate in that classroom to further their skills as educators. Parents also offer classes in areas of their expertise, or lead clubs for small groups of students. Others volunteer at the Resource Center, or help with AFE team sports.
AFE students and parents are active in the AFE community, as well as the community at large by volunteering with projects such as the Natural History Museum, Wilder Ranch, UCSC Farm and Garden, Ford Ord and Arana Gulch restoration, and literacy and tutoring projects.
Many AFE families are gifted artists that enrich the community with diverse visual and performing art projects. Visit the links on this page for some examples.
