Academic Subjects
Math: (Many of these math links were compiled by AFE parent Nancy Winans)
- Algebasics Algebra Tutorials — mathematics instructional resource that takes young and old alike through the basics of algebra
- Algebra in Simplest Terms (Learner.org) — Though a bit dated these videos seem interesting.
- Annenberg Media — Many teacher resources that can be used with students of all ages can be found here.
- Coolmath.com — math lessons, practice, games and activities for all levels
- Education Place Math — online math practice site grades K- 6
- Free Math Help — Free online math lessons with graphics and also a video version of lessons
- Free Online Graph Paper — This has a free graph paper generator for every kind of graph paper, chart, music notation, celtic knot, numberline, grids, dot papers, hexagonal and other polygonal shaped grids, note-taking and more!
- Geometry (Learner.org) — meant for K-8 teachers, but I think these activities would be engaging for students studying geometry, too.
- Math.com — has homework help, practice, tutoring, calculators and tools and some games and links (Click on tabs at top — not the blue links)
- Purplemath — has lessons for pre-algebra and algebra and links to other free online lessons and worksheets
- Superkids Educational Tools — Create individualized worksheets in basic math, play logic games, etc. (scroll and click on the left hand column — other side is ads)
- Aunty Math — Daily math logic/challenge problems for k-5
- A Maths Dictionary for Kids — (Note the link has maths with an 's' not math — I think this is a British phrase) Colorful A-Z dictionary of all math terms, with an interactive component for each term.
- Illuminations — Looks like a very cool comprehensive math site for K-12, with lessons and parent instruction, interactive activities, games, math standards, and challenging math activities.
- Living Math! — A great resource guide for all types of math programs, math resources, real life math, articles on math, program reviews, links and instructions on how to teach without worksheets!
- Real Math — I haven't seen this revised series but AFE had the Open Court Real Math series (one book for each grade level 4-8th) which we used for my son. It is less written work and more of a journey that leads the child to figure out for themselves why we do a procedure - good for students who need a mentally challenging program. I don't know if the new series is as good but you can order it online.
