Alternative Family Education (AFE) is an independent home study school provided for kindergarten through twelfth grade students and families who prefer an individualized approach to education, combined with the support of school district resources. See the About AFE page for more information.

Basketball Season Begins! — Come join the AFE team if you are in the 6th–12th grade. More info on the Classes page.

CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam)Tuesday, Feb 7th is English Language Arts (Reading & Writing), Wednesday, Feb 8th is Math. Both exams begin at 9:00 in Portable 27. Both exams take an average of 3 hours. Students please arrive by 8:45 to get seated and prepared and bring a snack. The testing is for all 10th graders and those 12th who need to take it.

Follywood! — AFE (Alternative Film Enthusiasts) presents The 9th annual Follywood Film Festival, Saturday, Feb 25 from 7–10 pm. All entries are due Feb 7.

Trip to Ashland Oregon Meeting — For those planning on attending the Ashland trip May 1–May 4, we will have a 30 minute lunch meeting for students and their parents on Thursday, February 9 at 12:00 noon to discuss trip details, vote on workshop choices, review behavioral expectations, and pay the trip deposit. Students who are attending the Health class at 1:00pm, please bring a lunch. The $250 deposit is due that day. This year's trip will cost around $330 or less, which includes four plays, prologues, a backstage tour, an actor's workshop, and a discussion with one of the actors, the hotel accommodations which include breakfast and the bus trip. Calling All Poets And Poetry Lovers! — Join Us For The Annual 'Plenty of Poetry' Potluck! Bring finger food and a poem to share! Tuesday, March 13, 4:00–5:30pm in AFE Classroom 2. All are welcome!

Our Site Council meets monthly to guide AFE staff with decision making, discuss family and student needs, and organize family efforts in support of AFE. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month, 12:30–1:30 in AFE Room #1. Meeting dates for 2012 are January 24, February 28, March 27 & April 24. All students and family members are welcome!
