AFE Campus

Alternative Family Education (AFE) is an independent home study school provided for kindergarten through twelfth grade students and families who prefer an individualized approach to education, combined with the support of school district resources. See the About AFE page for more information. AFE is part of the Santa Cruz City School District.

Pysanski Egg Dyeing — We will meet on Tuesday afternoons from 1:15–3 during the month of March to dye eggs in the traditional Ukrainian style known as Pysanky. Open to all ages, but all students 10 and under must have an adult accompany them. A donation of eggs or a dollar or 2 per student to help cover some of the costs is appreciated.

Prom — This year's Small Schools Prom will be held at Portuguese Hall in Santa Cruz, on Saturday, May 2nd, from 7:30–11:00 pm. All AFE High School students are invited to attend.

The Human Race — AFE will participate in the Community Fundraiser, the Human Race on May 9. We would like to have a large turn out this year. All proceeds benefit AFE.

Enrollment for Next Year! — Dear Families, please let your consultant teacher know whether or not you are planning to return to AFE next year. We are hosting an Informational Meeting for prospective families at 7 pm April 22nd in Room 2. If you know of a family who has been planning to homeschool, please make sure they contact Jasmin at 429-3898 ext 328 to get on the waiting list.

AFE Site Council — Our Site Council meets monthly as a liaison between parents and staff to inform and guide decision making, promote family and student needs, and organize family efforts in support of AFE. Our next meeting is on April 7th. All students and family members are welcome!

Student Resource Directory — For the first time, Santa Cruz County youth and parents looking for support have a user-friendly online directory of local resources such as nutrition, mentoring and health.

BSSC has become an affiliate site for Bookshop Santa Cruz. Anything purchased through this BSSC Affiliate link will be credited toward the purchase of new books for our library.
