Current Announcements — May 2012

Changing Consultant Teachers —
At the end of each year, students/families have the option of staying with their consultant teacher or changing to another teacher. We support you in having the very best possible educational experience, so don't hesitate to make a request. A family wanting to change consultant teachers needs to put it in writing. Please communicate your desires with your current teacher and make the request official by e-mailing Dale Knight (). We will confirm with the family in June whether the change has been approved. The deadline for requests this year is May 18th. Thanks, Dale

Mural at AFE —
Over a year ago, AFE parents Jan Palia and Cory Meyers proposed creating a community "Ribbons of Unity" mural at AFE. It was brought to our community Town Hall meeting, where parents and our then principal, Curt, gave the project a big thumbs up. Local artists Betsy Andersen and Bettylou Sturm of Woven Stories have designed a mural of color with student poetry and/or words embedded in it. And here we finally are, inviting everyone in our community to participate, beginning on Friday, May 11. Please see the newsletter for details.

Town Hall Meeting —
May 15, 7:00–9:00pm. Proposal forms for next year's activities are available in the RC (on check-out counter) and due by May 8.

Palazzo Art Show —
Save the date for our annual art show May 21, 2:00–4:30pm. We will be honoring Pat Palazzo's work in this world by celebrating the visual artists in our community. Pat was an AFE teacher whose gift was to empower her students to pursue art in its many forms. In this spirit, we invite all of you, students and parents, to bring your artwork to show or sell during our gathering at AFE. Continuing with our tradition, music will be performed by AFE students and we encourage the sharing of snacks and fruit. Contact Nancy for more information or to reserve a table at 429-3898 x334.

AFE Beach Bonfire —
Join us for a Beach Bonfire Friday, June 1, 6:00–10:00pm. Everyone is invited! We'll meet at Twin Lakes Beach at the end of 7th Avenue. To keep things simple let's bring just finger food to share, but if your family needs a heartier meal at that time, feel free to bring your dinner with you. I'll bring skewers if anyone wants to bring things to cook on the fire. Bring: firewood, beach toys, instruments, warm clothes, chairs, or whatever else you think would make for a really fun evening. Call Nancy for more info at 429-3898 x334.

AFE Sharing & Potluck —
The end of the school year is the time to honor and celebrate the journeys of all of our students. Thursday, June 7, AFE Sharing & Potluck will take place at Harvey West Park at EVERGREEN PICNIC AREA (note change of venue) which is across from the baseball fields, beginning at 6:00pm. This is a time to celebrate our homeschool journey by sharing our foods, playing games, and honoring our children. See the newsletter for complete details.

Policy for Non/Ex-AFE students —
There has been much discussion about campus safety and policy regarding having students that are not enrolled in AFE on our campus. Our principal has send out a clear policy statement to address this issue which you can see here: Policy for Non-AFE and Ex-AFE Students (PDF).

Site Council —
Our Site Council meets monthly to guide AFE staff with decision making, discuss family and student needs, and organize family efforts in support of AFE. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month, 12:30–1:30 in AFE Room #1. Meeting dates for 2012 are January 24, February 28, March 27 & April 24. All students and family members are welcome!

The School Calendar is our official events calendar for AFE. Check it for updates and schedule changes.

AFE Newsletter —
